PETR OČKO

Petr studied information management and European integration at the University of Economics in Prague and also completed a Ph.D. study in the field of information economy at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. He started in 1998 in what was then a small company, which today would be called a successful technology startup and which was one of the pioneers of commercial web applications in the Czech Republic. As an expert in the field of European economic integration, he then worked at the Ministry of Finance in the area of EU structural funds from 2001. From August 2007, he worked in the private sector as EU project coordinator at Telefónica O2. He returned to the state administration in 2009 as senior director for the budget and EU funds at the Ministry of Transport, and from August 2010 he worked as a section director for EU funds, research and development at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, where he was mainly responsible for management key programs to support industrial research and development, innovation and entrepreneurship. In the years 2012-2013, he was also in charge of the stabilization and development of the CzechInvest business and investment support agency as an authorized general director. Since 2015, he led the Department of Financial Instruments and Project Management at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and prepared, in particular, the project of the National Innovation Fund and the transformation of the Czech Moravian Guarantee and Development Bank. In March 2016, he was then appointed by the government as chairman of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and, as its head, successfully helped to develop support for applied research in key areas for the Czech Republic, including the so-called Industry 4.0 and other important trends. Since July 2018, he has been the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, responsible for a completely new digitization and innovation section, and believes that the Czech Republic can soon be among the innovation leaders in many areas.
